Installation / Conceptualism / Performance

Art movements like Minimalism, Conceptualism, Installation art, Land art and Performance art were rooted in earlier modern movements but, came to age during the contemporary art market and continue to be redefined into the 21st century.

Yves Klein was a leading member of the French artistic movement, Nouveau Réalisme in the early 1960’s was a pioneer in the development of Performance art, a forerunner of Mnimalism, Land Art and Conceptualism. In Conceptualism, the idea or concept is of primary importance to the work and some Conceptual art can fall into the category of installation art. The term “Conceptual Art” was first penned by Sol LeWitt in the late 60’s to describe the movement, but the designation ‘concept art’ had been used previously by the Fluxus group, a community of artists engaged in experimental art performances, in the early 60s.
