Impressionism

One of the leading fine art markets today - the term impressionism (first used mockingly) is said to have been inspired by a painting created by one of the movements founders, Claud Monet. Early French Impressionism found its start in the late 1800’s in France – where a “radical” group of artists, including Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro and others first showed their work. The first Impressionist exhibition opened on the 15th of April in 1874 and would forever alter the course of art. Today, works by leading Impressionists, such as Claud Monet, have bidders “lining up” to pay in excess of $100 million dollars for exquisite examples of their work.
