Mid-Century welded sculpture by the New York School abstract artist - Irving Lehman. The present work is part of a large collection of oil paintings and sculpture created by Irving Lehman, acquired by BENTON GALLERY.
Irving Lehman was an American painter, sculptor, engraver, and designer. He was born in Kiev in Russia, in 1900 and emigrated to the United States where he later studied at Cooper Union and the National Academy of Art in New York. Lehman spent most of his working life in New York City. He was immersed in the Abstract Expressionist movement in New York during the mid-century - working in many mediums, including oil, watercolor, and sculpture and is known to have created a substantial body of abstract sculpture. During his life - Lehman's works were shown in numerous galleries and traveling exhibitions in America and throughout the world - in England, France, Italy, Israel, Japan, and others.
